Routes are one of the core features of Your2Wheels and allow riders to create, share and discover some of New Zealand’s best motorcycle roads.
Whether it’s a short Sunday morning ride, a scenic day trip, or a multi-day touring adventure, routes help riders navigate their journey and discover new places to explore.
How Routes Fit Into Your2Wheels
Your2Wheels uses four connected features to help riders plan and share their adventures.
- Routes show how to get there.
- Points of Interest (POIs) highlight interesting or useful places to stop along the way.
- Destinations are where you’re going.
- Events bring riders together at a destination on a specific date and time.
Together, these features provide everything needed to plan, organise and enjoy great motorcycle rides.
What Can a Route Include?
A route can include:
- A GPX file
- Turn-by-turn route information
- Ride descriptions
- Photos
- Points of Interest (POIs)
- A destination
- Ride notes and recommendations
Routes can be used on their own or linked to an event to help riders follow the planned ride.
Public and Group Routes
Routes can either be shared with the entire Your2Wheels community or associated with one of your groups.
Public Routes
A public route is visible to all members and can be discovered by anyone browsing the Routes directory.
Public routes are ideal for:
- Scenic rides
- Popular day trips
- Touring routes
- Adventure rides
- Rides you’d like to share with the wider community
Group Routes
If you associate a route with one of your groups, it automatically inherits that group’s privacy settings.
For example:
- A route linked to a Public Group can be viewed by anyone who has access to that group.
- A route linked to a Private Group is only visible to approved members of that group.
This allows riding clubs and private groups to share routes exclusively with their members.
Routes and Events
Routes can be linked to events so riders know exactly where they’ll be travelling.
For example:
- Route: Coromandel Coastal Loop
- Destination: Coromandel Café
- Event: Coromandel Sunday Ride
Before the event, riders can view the route, download the GPX file (if available), and see any planned Points of Interest along the journey.
GPX Files
Many riders use GPS devices or navigation apps to follow planned routes.
Your2Wheels supports GPX files, allowing route creators to upload their planned ride and members to download it for use with compatible navigation devices and apps.
