Create a Ride Others Will Enjoy
Whether you’re organising a ride for two friends or fifty riders, a little planning goes a long way.
A well-planned ride is safer, more enjoyable and gives everyone a better experience.
Your2Wheels provides all the tools you need to organise and share your ride with confidence.
Step 1 – Decide the Purpose of the Ride
Think about what type of ride you’re organising.
For example:
- Coffee ride
- Breakfast or lunch ride
- Scenic day ride
- Adventure ride
- Overnight tour
- Charity ride
- Club ride
- Social meetup
Knowing the purpose of the ride helps determine the route, destination and pace.
Step 2 – Choose Your Destination
Every ride needs somewhere to finish.
Choose a destination that suits your group, such as:
- Café
- Restaurant
- Beach
- Scenic attraction
- Campground
- Event venue
Before creating a new destination, search the Your2Wheels database to see if it already exists.
Step 3 – Plan Your Route
Create a route that matches the type of ride you’re organising.
Consider:
- Total distance
- Expected riding time
- Fuel availability
- Road conditions
- Rider experience
- Scenic roads
- Traffic
Remember, the best route isn’t always the fastest one.
Step 4 – Plan Your Stops
Longer rides should include planned stops.
These might include:
- Fuel stops
- Coffee breaks
- Lunch stops
- Scenic lookouts
- Rest areas
- Regrouping points
Use the Your2Wheels Points of Interest database to discover places that may enhance your ride.
Step 5 – Create Your Event
Once your route is ready, create an event.
During event creation you can:
- Link your planned route.
- Select your destination.
- Associate the event with one of your groups.
- Create a community event open to all riders.
Providing clear event information helps riders know exactly what to expect.
Step 6 – Share Important Information
Include details such as:
- Meeting location
- Arrival time
- Departure time
- Fuel requirements
- Ride pace
- Rider experience required
- Any special instructions
The more information riders have before the ride, the smoother the day will run.
Ride Leader Tips
As the organiser, consider:
- Arriving early.
- Briefing riders before departure.
- Planning safe regrouping points.
- Checking weather conditions.
- Allowing enough time for breaks.
- Encouraging riders to ride within their own ability.
A relaxed, well-organised ride is usually the most enjoyable.
Building the Community
Every group ride is an opportunity to introduce riders to new roads, great destinations and fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.
By sharing your local knowledge and organising enjoyable rides, you’re helping grow the Your2Wheels community and encouraging more people to get out and explore New Zealand on two wheels.
Happy riding!
