Understanding Routes, Points of Interest and Destinations

Your2Wheels separates Routes, Points of Interest (POIs) and Destinations to help riders better plan and share their adventures.

Each feature has a different purpose:

Routes show how to get there.
Points of Interest (POIs) highlight places worth stopping along the route.
Destinations are where you’re going.
Events bring riders together at a destination on a specific date and time.

Together, these features provide everything needed to plan and share an enjoyable motorcycle ride.

What is a Destination?

A Destination is the final location or venue that your ride or event is centred around.

Examples include:

A café or restaurant
A campground
A scenic attraction
A motorcycle dealership
A museum
A beach
A lookout
A hotel or accommodation
A meeting venue

Destinations are permanent locations that can be linked to multiple events and routes over time.

How Destinations Connect with Events

Every event takes place somewhere.

When creating an event, you’ll either:

Select an existing destination, or
Create a new destination if it doesn’t already exist.

This allows multiple events to use the same destination without creating duplicate venue information.

Destination: Puhoi Hotel

Events:

Sunday Breakfast Ride
Monthly Social Lunch
Charity Poker Run

Each event has its own date and organiser, but they all share the same destination.

How Destinations Connect with Routes

Routes can also be linked to destinations.

For example:

Route: Auckland to Coromandel Coastal Ride
Destination: Coromandel Café

The route shows riders how to get there, while the destination identifies where the ride finishes.

What are Points of Interest (POIs)?

Points of Interest (POIs) are useful, scenic or interesting locations along a route.

Unlike a destination, a POI is usually somewhere riders may wish to stop briefly before continuing their journey.

Examples include:

Scenic lookouts
Fuel stations
Coffee stops
Public toilets
Rest areas
Photo opportunities
Historic landmarks
Waterfalls
Visitor centres

POIs also make excellent regrouping points during longer rides, allowing riders to safely pull over, stretch their legs, refuel, or wait for the rest of the group.
