Christchurch was set to host the final round of the 2026 FIM World Supercross Championship on 5 December. That event will no longer go ahead after World Supercross announced that its season had ended with immediate effect.
For Kiwi fans, it is disappointing news. The New Zealand GP would have brought international supercross racing to One New Zealand Stadium and given local riders and fans a chance to see the championship on home soil. Instead, the season has stopped after its opening round in Calgary.
World Supercross says it is in discussions with potential investors about the series’ future. At this stage, there has been no confirmed announcement about what happens beyond 2026. If you had made plans around the Christchurch event, keep an eye on updates from the organiser and any booking provider you used.
It is a particular shame for New Zealand’s off-road community. Tauranga rider Brodie Connolly was the only Kiwi competing in the championship and was equal fifth after the Calgary round. A home event would have been a chance to get behind him in person.
We’ll follow any further announcements about the series and what they mean for a future New Zealand round. Were you planning to head to Christchurch for the final?
